We clean carpets in Cheshunt with hot water extraction, the machine that pushes hot solution into the pile and pulls it straight back out again. A bedroom is £36. A living room is £43 and a flight of stairs £41. Same prices whether the house is one of the old cottages up by Turners Hill or a 1930s semi out at Rosedale.

Hot water extraction rinses the pile rather than skimming the top of it, which is the whole difference between a carpet that stays clean and one that greys off again by the autumn.

Room Price
Bedroom £36
Living room £43
Through lounge £61
Stairs, per flight £41

A hall has its own price, £22, rather than being charged as a room. A landing is priced on its own, £9 on top of the £41 flight, or £8 if the carpets go with a move-out.

What the machine does

Hot water extraction rinses. That matters because most carpets we meet have old detergent left in the bottom of the pile from a previous clean, and leftover soap is sticky, so dirt walks in and sticks to it. A carpet done last spring can look grey again by autumn for no other reason. We finish with a rinse pass that has no detergent in it at all.

Method What it actually does Where it makes sense
Hot water extraction Rinses soil out of the base of the pile and pulls the water back Anything domestic, and the only thing an agent will accept
Bonnet mopping Spins a damp pad over the top of the pile Office carpet tiles between proper cleans
Dry powder Brushes an absorbent compound in and vacuums it out Rooms that cannot be taken out of use for an afternoon

Bonnet mopping and dry powder both have their place. Neither one lifts soil out of the base of a pile, and neither is what we bring to a house in Cheshunt.

Why so many houses here get charged for a through lounge

The through lounge at £61 catches people out on the price list, and then they look at their own front room. Thousands of the bay-fronted semis in this town had the wall between the front and back reception taken out at some point in the last fifty years, which makes one long room rather than two small ones. We price it as a through lounge because that is what it is. One room, one price. The far end takes as long as the near end. If you are unsure which you have, measure it and tell us on the phone.

Long straight roads, long carries

Much of the estate housing here was built over old nursery and glasshouse ground, which is why the roads run in long straight lines with deep plots behind them. Good for gardens. Less good when the kit has to come from the road to a back bedroom, and on the 1930s semis the side access down to the garage is usually too narrow to pull into anyway, so we stop on the road and walk the rest. There is nothing for you to do about that. It just means we ask which side of the road you are on, and whether there is a side gate we can use.

Drying times, and why winter is slower

About two hours to walk on in summer with a window open. In January, in a north-facing back bedroom, it can be most of the day, and we would rather say that when you book than have you ring at teatime wondering what has gone wrong. We leave air movers running in rooms that need them.

What we move and what stays put

We shift sofas and beds, and clean neatly up to wardrobes and glass-fronted units. Clearing the small stuff off the floor before we arrive takes about half an hour off the job, and on a whole-house booking that is a real saving in time.

Stains and spot tests

We test a patch on any stain first, so you know what will lift before a room goes on the bill. Fresh spills and surface pet marks usually clear with a pre-spray and an enzyme rinse. Where the carpet is being replaced anyway, the fixed price move-out clean is the better spend and a vacuum will do.

Booking it with other work

Carpets get added to a one off deep clean often enough that we ask about it now as a matter of course, and they are quoted on top of the hourly team rate rather than inside it. One off work carries a £67 minimum, so two rooms clear it comfortably.

Where Monster Cleaning Cheshunt takes the machine

Everywhere on the same rates. Turnford, Wormley and the rest of the borough carry no travel charge, and the hall and stairs bookings out at Wormley West End are some of the steadiest work we have. The full price list has the lot, and the service list says which job suits which problem.

Questions we get asked

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Cheshunt?

A bedroom is £36, a living room £43, a through lounge £61 and stairs £41 a flight, with £9 for each landing on top. A hall is £22. A £67 minimum applies to one off work, so a single room booked alone comes to £67.

How long do carpets take to dry?

Roughly two hours in summer with a window open, up to a full day in a cold north-facing room in midwinter. You can walk on them in socks well before they are fully dry. We leave air movers in the slower rooms, and we will tell you at the booking if the room you have described is likely to be a slow one.

Do you move the furniture?

Sofas and beds, yes. Wardrobes with clothes in them, bookcases and glass-fronted units stay put, and we clean up to them rather than under them. If you clear the small items off the floor first the job runs about half an hour quicker.

Can you get rid of a pet smell?

Usually, where the smell sits in the pile: a hot water extraction clean with an enzyme treatment clears it. We check how deep it goes before we quote, so you know what to expect.

How much is stairs and a landing?

£41 a flight, and each landing is a separate £9. A house with two flights and two landings comes to £100, the £82 for the stairs plus £18 for the landings. Stair carpet takes longer per square metre than anything else in a house, which is why it is priced by the flight rather than by the room.

Is carpet cleaning part of an end of tenancy clean?

No. A tenancy clean includes vacuuming, not washing. If your agreement or your agent asks for the carpets to be professionally cleaned, we add it on the same visit at a lower scale than the rates above: £29 a bedroom, £36 a living room and £35 for the stairs. It saves you a second appointment as well.
